Transforming Woocommerce Simple Subscription to Variable Subscription with Existing Subscribers
Transforming Woocommerce Simple Subscription to Variable Subscription with Existing Subscribers
Currently, I am using Woocommerce along with Woocommerce Subscription plugins for my online store. I have a Simple Subscription type product that has accumulated a significant number of subscribers over several years.
Now, I need to transform this product from a simple subscription to a variable subscription. Specifically, I want to introduce subscription periods such as 1 month and 1 year. The issue I am facing is that due to existing subscriptions for the current Simple Subscription product, I cannot directly change the product type in the Woocommerce product settings. The woo documentation mentions this.
If you need to change a subscription product’s type or permanently delete a subscription product or subscription variation, you must first permanently cancel and delete all subscriptions which include that product as an item as well as any parent and renewal orders associated with that subscription product.
I cannot go down this path because many customers are subscribed to this product. I have considered creating a new product, but I must transfer all subscriptions from the old Simple Subscription product to the new Variable Subscription. After that, I need to delete the old product and keep only one product for all customers. I couldn't find a plugin that would export and import data from one product to another.
I also experimented with disabling the disabled tag in the inspector when changing the product type. Although this allows a smooth transition from "Simple Subscription" to "Variable Subscription" without errors, I realize that this may be an incorrect approach and could lead to unforeseen problems in the future.
What options or workarounds exist for changing the product type with numerous existing customers and subscriptions for this product?
Are there plugins (paid or free) capable of safely facilitating the transition by exporting/importing subscription data from one product to another?
I want to clarify that I'm not asking anyone to solve the problem for me. Instead, I'm seeking advice from those who have navigated this path before.
